Metamorphosis: transforming your images
with Kate Breakey
A Nobechi Creative Workshop
OVERVIEW:
Earlier in her storied career, the internationally-renowned artist Kate Breakey would make black and white, silver gelatin prints and hand-color them with transparent oil paint.
Now, she photographs digitally and alters her images using Photoshop and Lightroom first to prepare them before she adds media - pastels and colored pencils - to each print, rendering each piece a unique object. As Kate herself says, “I’m still a painter at heart.”
In this three-part workshop Kate will show you exactly what she does to make her pieces from start to finish, step by step. You do not need to be a Photoshop/Lightroom expert to take this non-technical class. Kate will explain the various paper surfaces she uses, and then will demonstrate the coloring process. In this class, you will watch Kate as she walks you through her techniques and ask questions along the way. You will not be making work during the class. The key outcome is for you to take notes, ask lots of good questions and put together a toolkit for you to work your images on your own time on your own schedule.
All sessions will be recorded and made available for you to watch any time via a private channel for participants only, so that you can review the methods and steps Kate employs.
Notes:
There is no need to purchase any materials in advance of this course. In fact, you may wish to wait to purchase materials until after this class is finished. Kate will supply you with her materials list before the class begins, but you may want to ask questions of her before you purchase anything.
A basic working knowledge of Lightroom and Photoshop is preferable, but not essential.
Class Size:
Limited to 25 participants

testimonials:
“I really enjoyed this workshop! Kate was so generous with her knowledge, I really feel prepared to start trying her techniques myself. The workshop ran smoothly and I felt I could easily get all my questions answered. I enjoyed the conversational format - very often this type of workshop offered by other websites limits the attendee to typing in a question and there is no opportunity for conversation - I was happy that we could talk to Kate, George, and each other - it made for a more comfortable learning environment.”

“I thought Kate did an excellent job of presenting this class. Her instructions were clear and easy to understand. I really liked the demo videos that were shown and how Kate actually hand colors the images. By talking some and showing examples and then demonstrating with a video plus answering questions the class moved along at a very good pace and was fun to be a part of.”
