Join renowned master color photographer Arthur Meyerson and local, bilingual photographer and Nobechi Creative Director George Nobechi on their fifth collaborative expedition in Japan.
This expedition is a little different from the typical, highly-acclaimed Arthur and George journey.
Limited to just seven participants, this is a “road trip” around the beautiful and ancient provinces of the island of Shikoku, which means “Four Kingdoms.”
Overview:
After a meet-and-greet in Tokyo on the first night, we will board a morning flight the next day bound for Shikoku, where we will hop in our comfortable 10-passenger van. The benefits of having our own private van for this journey will reveal themselves early on as we make numerous stops at beautiful locations all around the area. We will spend three nights in a traditional Japanese hot spring inn surrounded by nature.
Next we will drive to the southern coast. We will visit a wonderful market and explore vintage bar districts at night - a street photographer’s dream. Day trips will take us to the spectacular coastline. We will spend three nights in a centrally located hotel in the area.
The third kingdom we visit will be in the north, noted for its balmy, Mediterranean-like climate, the many islands of the Seto Inland Sea that are accessible by an interconnected network of bridges, and Japan’s oldest continuously operating onsen (hot spring). We will also explore a beautiful castle perched high atop a hill with commanding views of the city and the port. We will spend two nights in a comfortable, modern hot spring hotel.
The fourth and final kingdom we will visit is home to the world-famous art islands. We will explore the museums and galleries and wonderful coastal landscapes of these islands by inter-island ferry. We will also spend time at a famed garden in the area as well and spend three nights in a centrally-located hotel.
Interspersed among the entire journey we will visit select temples that are part of the 88 Temple Pilgrimage Route known as the Ohenro.
EXTENSION:
The extension will consist of a special night’s stay at the architectural and artistic wonder that is the Benesse House, followed by two days in Okayama Prefecture, across the Seto Inland Sea from Shikoku, exploring the beautiful canaled city of Kurashiki.
Notes:
You should be in reasonable physical shape, able to manage yourself on nature trails, optionally on rocks along the seashore or planks on a suspension bridge. We will be getting in and out of vans often in the first half of the trip and be more on foot in the second half of the trip.
You should have good working knowledge of your camera/cameras and be able to use the basics of photo cataloguing software.
NOTES:
International airfare is not included.
Travel Insurance (Mandatory)
Additional lunches and dinners, alcohol, any other meals not indicated in the PDF brochure, camera equipment, excess baggage fees, extra nights in Tokyo on the front or back ends, and incidentals.
