A + B = C: A NEW LANGUAGE OF POWERFUL VISUAL MEANING
with Dr. Brett L. Erickson
Every Sunday from October 6th to November 3rd, 2024
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Central Time
OVERVIEW:
Meaning is the most elusive of photographic quarries.
Beyond subject. Beyond light. Beyond frustration, too.
But what if there were a way to distill the essence of meaning into a cohesive, engaging, illuminating practice?
In this class, you will learn just that.
Because the desire to make compelling, enduring photographs crosses cultural boundaries, this class provides an answer to the search for meaning through an approach that received rave reviews at the Karuizawa Foto Fest and Nobechi Creative Kyoto Retreat. It provides an entirely new way of thinking about seeing, composition, meaning, and photography itself.
It is a class for those who wish to transform and elevate the way they think, see, and create.
As part of the process, Brett will guide you in a small group setting through lectures, assignments, critiques, and feedback sessions as you learn this new method of photography.
Each session, a first-hour lesson will use a component of the process and examples to illustrate concepts of the ABCs. In the second hour, we will look at a single selection of your work and will be dedicated to critiques. This class will not feature intensive critiques, and weekly assignments will be given out that will focus on the quality of a single image, rather than quantity. That approach will ensure you begin to understand the ABCs system well.
It’s also geared for fun. The class is designed for you to grab a glass of wine and tune in, in a “family-style” setting.
Lessons will take place on Sundays between 6:00 PM–8:00 PM CDT/CST via Zoom. Video recordings will be provided if you miss any lessons and will be available for you to go back and watch at any time.
